Press Release

Body Theater – Deconstruction

Exhibition Dates: February 7 – February 20, 2025

Opening Reception: February 7, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Location: Loy Luo Space, 101 Lafayette St., Tribeca, New York

As the initiator and curator of the Body Theater series, Loy Luo continuously reconstructs her thinking through the process of creation and re-creation. Deconstruction is not merely the dismantling and reorganization of structures—it is a layered cycle of self-negation and self-affirmation. Affirmation deconstructs negation, and negation deconstructs affirmation—just as past and present, black and white, continuously dismantle and redefine one another.

In Body Theater – Deconstruction, four artists—Weiling Pan, Greville Jacques, Betty Tan, and Loy Luo—explore the shifting relationships between identity, perception, and time. Through various themes, the exhibition presents dislocated dialogues between organs, reversals, confusion between dreams and reality, and repeated ruptures of self-consciousness.

Deconstructing Deconstruction

A central question of this exhibition is the deconstruction of deconstruction itself. How do we move beyond the flat, linear approach to dismantling structures? What is the role of unity and reconciliation within deconstruction? This exhibition does not seek an endpoint but thrives in an ongoing state of division and renewal, challenging the very notion of stability in artistic expression.

A Rupture That Keeps Evolving

The structure of this exhibition mirrors the ideas within it—continually unfolding, shifting, and resisting definition. Body Theater – Deconstruction embraces a deliberate betrayal of the past, allowing meaning to emerge through unexpected fractures. This is not a fixed exhibition; it is a deconstruction already in motion—one that will not end but will continue evolving.

An Open Invitation to Deconstruct

As a constantly developing concept, Body Theater – Deconstruction remains open in both theme and participation. Any artist who resonates with its ideas is invited to engage with this space of deconstruction, provided they adhere to the exhibition’s guiding principles. After all, rules themselves are a deconstruction of freedom.
