Color Theater - Orange

Is the orange movement just in time in late autumn and early winter?

The first thing that comes to people's mind about the orange color is its taste, an association of deliciousness. Orange is an optimistic and bright color. In addition, it also symbolizes harvest and satisfaction. The orange exhibition features a celebration of the harvest season, corresponding to the harvest and challenges that have just passed. After a long period of chaos and struggle, the dust settled, and everything went well. Orange should be the occasional reward from the sacred God (corresponding to the human nature of people) to miserable humans!

The world is unfair and fair, and life is bitter and sweet. Such a contradiction is accurate, and only such a statement can stand. Orange is the proof of the rationality of the contradiction. As the warmest color, any color standing side by side with it will highlight its warmth, but it does not make other colors colder in contrast. Orange is a good metaphor for attitude. This metaphor is not just a cliché to inspire people to brave the cold and look forward to the victory of spring but to appreciate the different colors and scenery of the world with a more optimistic and inclusive attitude.

I often think of the slogan, "Everyone is an artist," Now it's time to do something real.

OrangeHOWELL

OrangeHOWELL, my colorful moniker, established in 2010, named in honor of Paula Zangger’s great-grandfather, an American Quaker with ties to the Underground Railroad, whose given name really was Orange Lemon Howell.
I think of OrangeHOWELL as a brand with a very real story, an American parody— a gender-neutral, fruity old Quaker name, referencing the Glorious Revolution, that by happenstance is about color.
OrangeHOWELL is monetized creativity, channeled from a financial focused light source, through me, Paula. OrangeHOWELL encompasses my career experiences mixed with ideas about art and interior things, textiles, wallpaper, tableware, objects, historical motifs and modern influences, all infused with color.

Yucheng Liao

Yucheng Liao (b.2000, Chongqing, China, lives and works in New York) works on mixed media installation with various materials that often have a raw and organic texture, such as wood, water, and fabric. Yucheng performs with the resonance of the materials themselves, and by seeking a balance of the weight between materials, she attempts to create a harmony in which the authenticity of nature can be revealed, and in which it can connect with the ancient and vastness of the earth.

Kristen Cormier

My work is inspired by color, quirky composition, and light. The figure in space is a common subject for me—interior or exterior—often with a sense of mystery. Color contributes to the mood. In this case, orange can be either jolting in the moment, or nostalgic to the place.

I thrive on expressive mark making and design. The balance of light and color dictate the work. I work both large scale and small, painting or drawing.

DANIEL LANZILOTTA

DANIEL LANZILOTTA is an award-winning environmental artist, activist, and lecturer who's stood in the forefront of climate change awareness for nearly 30 years. A self-proclaimed plastician and non-extractive artist, Lanzilotta creates sculptures and jewelry from ocean and street debris plastic waste, handcrafted into beads and unique pieces that convey a message about the pervasive impact of plastic consumption on our environment.
Lanzilotta, a 2024 Human Impacts Institute Creative Climate Award Winner, has exhibited his art in New York, California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, France, Italy, and Haiti.
He holds a prominent leadership role as a member of Al Gore's Climate Reality Project and an attendee at conferences such as Climate Action Week at Harvard University. Lanzilotta has been invited to lecture and be interviewed by numerous media outlets over the years, most recently an ongoing guest on BronxNet's Mental Health and You with Cynthia Timms and The Bronx Buzz to initiate a dialogue that confronts our role in perpetuating the cycle of plastic pollution.
Born and raised in the Bronx, he is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a bachelor's degree in art.

Leo López

Leo López is an emerging artist based in New York City, NY. Originally from Los Angeles, CA, Leo earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a self-taught artist who relies on his K-12 art education to create art that ranges from playful compositions to original fine works of art for exhibition to customized commissions. As a gay Mexican American who has lived across the United State, Leo’s unique background, multi-cultural identities, and diverse interests drive the wide range of media, styles, and effects present in his art. Leo’s primary art series “Cosmic Daydream,” takes his passion for astronomy and astrology to expanding colorful dimensions, whereas his makeup-based series “ILYSFM” explores drag, sexuality and sensuality through a campy perspective. Throughout his brief art career that started in 2020, Leo has participated in multiple group art exhibitions and completed various commissioned artworks. His next big goal is to debut in a solo art exhibition.

Rebecca Dunn

Located in Redding CT, Rebecca has been creating as long as she can remember with more mediums than she can count. She studied under renowned painter, Phyllis Shafer, in 2012 to learn classic oil painting techniques. Having spent many years practicing oil painting she took a workshop for encaustics at Silvermine Art Center in 2018 and fell in love with this unique medium. Through trial and error she has created a style that is completely her own that continues to evolve.

Ricardo Arango

Ricardo Arango uses various media in his sculptures such as ceramics, glass, marble, and steel. Arango sometimes explores the combination of all these different elements in one piece. His work highlights the beauty of each material as he places the diverse materials in unique arrangements. There are soft edges, sharp points, rounded forms, vibrant colors, and Arango maintains a steady commitment to composition throughout his process. He says, “The diverse qualities of materials excite my imagination such as the flexibility of clay, the rigidity of metal, and the fluid nature of fired glass. I create seeking to explore the visual relationships between the materials in creating new forms.” Inspired by the sculpture of Anthony Caro, Louise Nevelson, Omar Rayo, and David Smith, Arango creates his own concepts with an underlying interest in uplifting the spirit of his audience.

Loy Luo

Loy Luo is an artist based in New York. She received a master’s degree from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and taught art at the Beijing Institute of Science and Technology Management.
Luo's focus has been painting and sculpting. She is also a concept and performance artist, a poet, a vocalist, and a writer. Her art has been exhibited or collected in China, Italy, France, the United States, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Australia, and other countries.

Marcus Carter

“My work is driven by a deep sense of empathy toward humanity and an unwavering faith that kindness will triumph. This conviction is mirrored in my art, as I draw inspiration from the masterful works of Basquiat, Beckmann, Kandinsky, Klee, Kooning and Miró—artists whom I greatly admire”.

I studied at Educational Alliance under Albert Wasserman. When he passed away, I began taking classes at Chelsea Classic Studios, Art Students League and Atelier Jolie via SVA. I consider myself self-taught and guided by my subjects or ideas on how to approach the canvas.
